Lions Recycle For Sight Program

Usable Glasses Give New Life

Refractive errors can be easily corrected with eyeglasses, yet millions living in low and middle income countries lack access to basic eye care services. Lions have recognized the urgent need for corrective lenses and collect usable glasses in their communities to support the Lions Recycle For Sight Program.

Your old eyeglasses can bring the world into view for a person in need

The Janesville Lions collect used eyeglasses, which can help children and adults in developing countries enjoy a better quality of life. In most developing nations, eye care is either not affordable or inaccessible. And for many, poor eyesight that is left uncorrected can lead to unemployment for adults and a child’s inability to attend school.

There are 35+ collection sites in the Janesville area (see map below). After the glasses are collected locally, they are sent to the Wisconsin Lions Recycling Center located at Camp Rosholt near Stevens Point. There they are inspected, cleaned, the prescriptions read and then packaged for use on eyeglass missions.

Over the past number of years, members of Lions Clubs from Wisconsin have conducted many missions to Mexico and Honduras, delivering hundreds of thousands of pair of glasses to those in need.
